Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team fell in straight sets to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College in the Tomsich Arena.
Kenyon did not trail in the entire match and defeated he Yeowomen by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-6.
In the losing effort, junior setter and right side hitter
Sara Chang had a strong performance as she tallied a team-high seven kills, 11 assists and seven digs.
Along with Chang offensively, senior
Dana Thomas and sophomore
Lexi Mitchell each added five kills.
On the other side of the net, defensive specialist
Emily Kelkar had a team-high 10 digs.
In the first set, the Yeowomen had the game tied at 3-3, but a 6-0 run by the Ladies gave them a comfortable lead and that they would not look back.
After surrendering an early lead in game two, the Yeowomen fought back to knot the game at 14-14 when Chang spiked a ball down off a feed from
Samantha Lam. Kenyon would go on to score the final 11 points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
With the Ladies leading 11-4 in the decisive third set, Kenyon went on a 12-0 run that blew the game open.
The Yeowomen fall to 9-8 on the year and 0-3 in NCAC play. The Ladies improved to 12-6 and are 2-0 against conference opponents.
The Yeowomen are back in action tomorrow for a Senior Day match up against The College of Wooster starting at 4 p.m.
