Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team honored senior
Dillon Sebastian prior to the start of the match, but it was the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers who left the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex as victors as they took down the Yeowomen, 7-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Sebastian, who leads the NCAC with six defensive saves on the season, made her 54
th career appearance for Oberlin.
The Tigers netted the game's first goal in the seventh minute as Audrey Coler followed her own shot and put the rebound back in. They would go on to add three first-half goals to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission.
Wittenberg continued the offensive pressure in the second half, tacking on three goals to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome on a windy day at Bailey Field.
Oberlin had more up-field movement in the second half and eventually broke through for its lone tally of the match as
Luisa McGarvey found space on the left side of the arc and sent in her second goal of the year.
Kennedy Kline played all 70 minutes in the cage and finished with 16 saves to run her conference-leading total to 185 on the year. First-year
Molly Thayer also added a defensive save late in the second half.
Wittenberg improved to 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the NCAC. Oberlin fell to 1-15 and 0-10 in league action.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Saturday, October 21 when it crosses state lines to tangle with the Tigers of DePauw at 12 p.m.
