Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Terriers Top Yeomen in Monday Night Clash

Hiram, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's basketball team suffered a 79-70 loss at Hiram College on Monday night.

Four Yeomen finished in double figures led by Andre Campbell who continued his hot performance from the floor. The freshman from San Francisco, California, reset his career-high with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with four steals. Eli Silverman-Lloyd added 14 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Eric Holt posted double figures for the sixth straight game with 13 points. Jack Poyle completed the foursome with 11 tallies of his own.

A 3-pointer from Poyle had the Yeomen out in front 15-10 with 11:17 left in the opening half. However, the home Terriers would flip their five-point deficit into a five-point lead, using a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to open up a 22-17 advantage.

An old-school 3-point play from Silverman-Lloyd had the Yeomen back within a deuce, but Hiram would extend the cushion out to nine before settling with a 37-32 halftime edge as Poyle snuck in a layup just before the first-half horn.

Hiram would lead by double digits for most of the second half, opening up 58-44 margin on an Isaiah Matthews jumper with just under 12 minutes to play. A layup from Holt had the Yeomen shortcoming down to nine, but Hiram would go up by as many as 17 with 3:12 left to play. Oberlin fought till the end to get within nine, but the eventual outcome was never in doubt.

Like in the first meeting, the Yeomen struggled to contain the interior force of Kelvin Jones as he led all scorers with 22 points. In two games against Oberlin he posted 47 points this season.

Hiram shot a blistering 57.2 percent (31-of-54) from the floor, while the Yeomen were also impressive at 47.2-percent (22-of-53). The Terriers won the rebounding war 35-20, including a 15-8 edge on the offensive end that led to 15 second-chance points.

Oberlin's three-game week will continue on Wednesday night when it returns home to host The College of Wooster at 7:30 p.m.
