Yeomen Drop a Nail-biter at DePauw

Greencastle, IN – Four Yeomen scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the DePauw University Tigers outlasted the Oberlin College men's basketball team, 80-76, on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Jack Poyle spearheaded the Oberlin effort with 17 points, while sophomore Eric Holt added a career-high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Rookie Joshua Friedkin reached double figures for the third time this season with 11 points, while sophomore Eli Silverman-Lloyd added 12 in the setback.

The Yeomen trailed by five at the intermission, 37-32, and stayed within striking distance till the very end.

A triple-hit from Poyle with 1:43 left to play had the gap down to 73-70, but the Tigers hit five free throws down the stretch as they fended off the late Yeomen comeback bid.

Oberlin led on multiple occasions in the first half. A 3-pointer from Holt put the Yeomen out in front 26-22 at the 4:39 mark of the opening half, but the Tigers closed the frame on a 15-6 run.

DePauw would increase its lead out to 10, 53-43, with 14:08 left to play in the game. However, the Yeomen wouldn't go away quietly. A fastbreak layup from Poyle with 4:31 remaining had Oberlin to within four, 65-61, but DePauw quickly pushed the lead back out to nine and held on for its ninth win of the season.

The loss dropped the Yeomen to 1-13 overall and 0-7 in the NCAC. The Tigers are now 9-6 and 5-3 in league play.

Oberlin shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the floor, including an 8-of-20 effort from 3-point land. The Tigers, who were led by a game-high 29 points from Luke Lattner, checked in at 53.7 percent (29-of-54).

The Yeomen are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel across state lines to take on Allegheny College at 8 p.m.
