Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team scored a season-low 43 points as the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers spoiled Senior Day for the Yeomen by cruising to a 63-43 win on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.
The Yeomen honored seniors
Matt Walker and
Randy Ollie prior to tip-off, but the fun for Oberlin pretty much ended there as the Tigers controlled the game throughout.
No Oberlin player reached double figures in scoring as Ollie led the way with nine points, while
Eli Silverman-Lloyd chipped in with eight.
Nile Godfrey came off the bench late to add seven points.
The Yeomen shot just 37-percent from the floor - marking their third lowest performance of the season – as they connected on just 17 of the 46 shots they hoisted. That effort included a 5-of-16 (31.3%) showing from beyond the arc.
Three Tigers finished in double figures as Cody Phillippi and Alex Fultz led their attack with 13 points each. As a team Wittenberg shot nearly 47-percent, connecting on 23-of-49 attempts. The Tigers also impressed from long range with nine makes on 19 3-point attempts for a 47.4-percent success rate.
The loss marked the third straight for the Yeomen as they fell back to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in the NCAC. The Tigers moved to 13-8 overall and 8-6 in the league.
Wittenberg led 17-10 midway through the opening half, but the Yeomen were later down by just four, 22-18, with 7:59 left in the frame. However, Oberlin would net just two more points the rest of the half, going into the intermission down 32-20.
Oberlin never really threatened in the second half as the Tigers' lead ballooned up to 23 points with 9:09 left to play. The Yeomen would twice get the margin down to 15, but could get no closer than that the rest of the way.
The Yeomen will look to get back on track when they travel to Allegheny College on Wednesday night. Tip-time is set for 8 p.m.
