GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Oberlin College field hockey closed their trip to the Hoosier State with a 4-0 defeat at DePauw University on Sunday afternoon.
The North Coast Athletic Conference leading Tigers bothered goalie
Maggie Gossiaux all day posting 22 shots, 14 on frame, compared to the Yeowomen's six, three on target.
The Tigers first goal came five minutes in as Reilly Bruce tallied her first of the day. The Yeowomen went down 2-0 after DePauw's Kate Milner beat Gossiaux in a one-v-one situation.Â
The Tigers kept the offensive pressure on the Crimson and Gold back line flicking three more shots at Gossiaux before notching their third score of the half.
In the next ten minutes, DePauw continued to pester the Oberlin netminder firing seven shots at Gossiaux, six of which require a response from the Metuchen, New Jersey native. After the barrage, the Tigers found their final goal of the game when Bruce cashed in on her second of the game.
In the closing minutes, the Yeowomen broke into the offensive third and earned a penalty corner that offered the first scoring opportunity of the game. Off of the corner,
Ariana Enzerink took a shot at goal but the attempt was blocked.
Maureen Coffey called the Tigers goalie, Sarah Foye, into question for the first time in the 34th minute but couldn't find the back of the net.
Gossiaux and the Oberlin defensive front kept the Tigers scoreless in the final 35-minute frame and attempted to find a goal of their own in the closing seconds. Wanting to break the shutout, the Yeowomen again went on the offensive starting with a shot from Enzerink.Â
A penalty corner taken by
Amelia Huang, led to another attempt from Enzerink, but she couldn't find the target initially. Enzerink's third shot of the day troubled Foye, but the Tiger maintained her clean sheet. The final offensive spark from the Yeowomen go as another save for Foye as Coffey flung her final attempt of the day.
Foye finished with three stops, while Gossiaux posted ten stops, her seventh double-figure save effort of the year.
Oberlin College field hockey returns on Wednesday, October 19, when they entertain Washington and Jefferson University at the Austin E. Knowlton Complex.
The Yeowomen and Presidents square off at 6 p.m. from the turf of Bailey Field.
