LOS ANGELES – Oberlin College men's soccer finished with a 0-1 result in the program's first-ever matchup against the Tigers of Occidental College.
The Oberlin defense played tough against a troublesome Occidental front line. Despite a formidable effort from the Yeomen, a late goal from the Tigers spoiled Oberlin's first match on the west coast.
The Oberlin forwards struggled in the offensive third, registering eight shots, only two of which challenged Tigers' keeper Theo Atkinson.
Senior forward
John Ingham, who played hero with a late goal against Otterbein on Tuesday, and junior
Nick Wertman guided the Oberlin offense in Los Angeles. Wertman led the way with three shots, one on goal. The dangerous Ingham notched only one shot on goal, which came late in the second half.
First-year keeper
Koryn Kraemer faced an onslaught in net, but stood tall to haul in eight saves against the Tigers who finished with 22 shots on the night.
Kraemer and the Oberlin back line kept their clean sheet intact until the 87
th minute when the Tigers found the back of the net sparked by a corner kick opportunity.
The Yeomen will rest tomorrow before taking on Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff between the Yeomen and Sagehens is slated for 7 p.m. EST / 4 p.m. PST.
