Men’s Soccer Drops NCAC Opener at DePauw

Greencastle, IN – The Oberlin College men's soccer team opened up league play in one of the nation's best NCAA Division III conferences on Saturday afternoon, dropping a tight 2-1 decision at DePauw University.

The Tigers caught the Yeomen off guard in the opening minute of the match as Adrian Ables snuck in his third goal of the season just 27 seconds in.

DePauw would make the 1-0 lead stand up all the way until the 66th minute when Oberlin found its equalizer. It was senior Louis Naiman who squared the match with his third tally of the year.

As both teams continued to battle in effort to start the NCAC gauntlet with three points, it was the Tigers who netted the ultimate game-winner. In the 75th minute Julian Gonzalez created space and sent home his fourth score of year.

In the final 15 minutes, Oberlin battled to tie the game, but unfortunately came up empty. Jonah Blume-Kemkes sent a shot wide of target and Naiman had another sail high. The Yeomen's best chance came courtesy of John Ingham, but Tigers' keeper Chris Yount, who finished with four saves, saved Ingham's header.

Yount's counterpart Koryn Kraemer turned away six shots in the setback. The Tigers were credited with 21 shot attempts, but most were wide of target as just eight of their tries were on goal. The Yeomen fired off 12 shots with five being on goal.

The loss dropped the Yeomen to 6-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NCAC. DePauw moved to 6-1-1 and 1-0-0 in league play.

Oberlin will continue NCAC play next Saturday when it travels to The College of Wooster. The first touch is set for 7:30 p.m.
