Field Hockey Hangs Tough with Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team battled the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers nip and tuck for 70 minutes, but in the end the Tigers were able to pull away for a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Tigers triggered 22 shots with 15 on frame, while Oberlin attempted seven shots with five being on target. Maureen Coffey led the Yeowomen with three total shots, while both of Ariana Enzerink's attempts were headed towards the cage before being turned away by Wittenberg keeper Sarah Brownell.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the intermission on Blaine Donnelly's fourth score of the season as Isabella Wagner found her on the back post.

In relief of Maggie Gossiaux, first-year Kennedy Kline kept the Tigers at bay with four first-half saves. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native would go on to add five more stops in the second half to finish with nine on the afternoon.

The Yeowomen had a few promising runs in the opening frame, but were unable to find the back of the cage.

Early in the second half, Donnelly sent home her second goal of the game as she redirected a pass from Maddie Goelz past Kline. The Tigers would go on to add two more scores in the second stanza to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

Wittenberg, which moved to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC, earned 16 corners, while the Yeowomen finished with three.

The Yeowomen (0-8, 0-5 NCAC) are back in action next Saturday as they host The College of Wooster at 11 a.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
