Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Outlasted by Bishops

OBERLIN, Ohio – Oberlin College field hockey fiercely battled the visiting Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops under the lights at Bailey Field. Two first half goals weren't enough for the Yeowomen as the squad from Delaware, Ohio outlasts the Oberlin women, 7-2.

The Battling Bishops struck early with three goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest.

Despite going down 3-0 early, Yeowomen would answer before the halftime break. At the 19:45 mark, senior Sophia Weinstein found her first goal of the game and of her 2015 campaign to trim the Bishop lead to two.

After rapping a shot on goal and being fouled in the front of the Ohio Wesleyan net, junior Maureen Coffey was awarded the penalty spot. The Manassas, Virginia native step up to the spot and laid a shot into the OWU net, past keeper Jackie Feliciano.

The Battling Bishops took their slim 3-2 lead into the half and would extend their advantage in the early stages of the second stanza.

Just over seven minutes into the second half, the Battling Bishops gained a 4-2 lead, and added another score to less than a minute later.

On top of the Yeowomen, 5-2, Ohio Wesleyan earned another score from Haley Savoie before Montana Knapp completed her four-goal performance with the final OWU tally in the closing seconds of play.

Junior Maureen Coffey was an offensive force for Oberlin finishing with one tally on seven shots, six on goal. Classmate Ariana Enzerink was a solid offensive weapon for the Yeowomen despite not finding the back of the OWU goal. Enzerink finished with three shots, all on target.

Defensively, first-year Claire Miller and senior Kendra Lian finished the night with one defensive save each helping junior keeper Maggie Gossiaux who face a multitude of Ohio Wesleyan attempts. Gossiaux finished with eight saves against the Battling Bishops.

The loss drops Oberlin to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a quick turn around ahead.

The Yeowomen return to action in less than 24-hours as they host the Wittenberg Tigers tomorrow on Bailey Field inside the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex. Action between the Yeowoemn and Tigers is slated for 1 p.m.
