RICHMOND, Ind. – Following a six-day hiatus, Oberlin College field hockey returned to action to take on the Earlham College Quakers. The Yeowomen outplayed the Quakers offensively, but struggled to find the back of the net, falling 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
A slow start for the Yeowomen led to two first-half goals for the Quakers. The Yeowomen stepped up the offensive intensity in the second half, but Earlham snuck another attempt past
Maggie Gossiaux and held on to win, 3-0.
Gossiaux finished with seven saves against the Quakers, elevating her season total to a North Coast Athletic Conference best 80 stops.
The Yeowomen set a season-high as a unit, firing 19 shots, nine of which troubled the Quaker goalie, Kate Korobkina. The Oberlin 11 were active in the offensive third registering a season-high 12 opportunities from the corner spot, 10 of which came in the second half.
Junior attacker and offensive spearhead,
Maureen Coffey led the Oberlin charge with nine shots, four on frame. Fellow frontline player
Ariana Enzerink added to her season total with six attempts against the Quakers, two of which were on goal.
The tandem of
Emma Broun and
Emma Hahn also got involved around net with three combined shots with two on target. Senior
Taylor Swift also put a shot on frame, but couldn't beat Korobkina.
Oberlin College field hockey (0-5, 0-2 NCAC) returns to action tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 20, when they roll into Greencastle, Indiana and DePauw University. Match time is set for noon.
