Yeomen Comeback Bid Falls Short at Grove City

Grove City, PA  - The Oberlin College men's soccer team scored twice in the final nine minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Grove City College Wolverines held on for a 4-3 win over the Yeomen on Wednesday afternoon.

The Yeomen put 13 of their 20 shots on frame, but give Wolverines' keeper Ben Weaver credit as he helped preserve the win by making 10 saves.

Oberlin fell behind in the 20th minute on Seth Loew's third goal of the season, but the Yeomen would quickly find the equalizer as reining NCAC Player of the Week John Ingham recorded his seventh goal of the year and 30th of his career as he blocked a Wolverines' clear attempt that ricocheted inside the left post.

It was a 1-1 game at the intermission, but three straight Wolverine goals put the Yeomen in a large disadvantage as they trailed 4-1 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

In the 81st minute, sophomore Jesse Lauritsen recorded his first-career goal with the help of a Dan Lev assist and just seven minutes later the Yeomen would get within one on senior Louis Naiman's second tally of the year.

The Yeomen would have one last chance to force extra time, but Ingham's shot in the 89th minute flew high over the crossbar.

With the loss, Oberlin had its three-match winning streak come to an end as they now rest at 4-2. Grove City moved to 3-2 with the win.

Freshman goalie Koryn Kraemer made eight saves as he played all 90 minutes between the pipes.

Oberlin finished with a slight 20-18 edge in shots, which included a 13-12 cushion in shots on goal. The Wolverines triggered five corners compared to the Yeomen's four.

The Yeomen will look to get back to their winning ways when Medaille College comes to town on Sunday for a 2 p.m. matinee.
