Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team traveled to the campus of Denison University where they battled Johns Hopkins on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to the Blue Jays.
Johns Hopkins took a 3-0 lead into the half with Princess Sutherland scoring the game's first two goals. She cashed in the first just 5:32 into the contest before adding her second tally in the 27
th minute.
The Blue Jays would add one more score just before the half-time horn sounded as Shannon Parker put one in with the help of a Megan Ophel assist.
The Oberlin offense was unable to get going as the Yeowomen suffered their first shutout loss of the year. The Blue Jays triggered 34 shots, including 25 on goal.
The Yeowomen finished with four shots, three of which were on goal. Those came off the sticks of
Ariana Enzerink and
Maureen Coffey, who had two.
The Blue Jays would tack on goal in the 60
th minute as Leslie MacManus sent one past
Maggie Gossiaux. The Oberlin keeper turned away 21 shots and now has 83 saves on the young season.
The Jays earned 20 penalty corners, while the Yeowomen had just one.
Oberlin fell to 0-4 with the loss while JHU is now 3-2.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Saturday when they travel west to take on Earlham College at 11 a.m.
