Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team scored early and often as they cruised to a commanding 8-0 win over the visiting Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets on Friday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.
Senior
John Ingham made his footprint all across the pitch as he registered a hat trick and dished out two assists all in the first half.
Oberlin was in complete control from start to finish as Inhgam drew a foul in the box and deposited his free kick from the penalty spot just 3:03 into the game.
The second Yeomen goal was a thing of beauty as Ingham sent a long ball to the outside to
Sam Weiss, who quickly serviced it over to
Timothy Williams for his second goal of the year.
Slade Gottlieb would make it a 3-0 Yeomen lead as he opened his senior account by sending one home from the top of the box after getting a back pass from Ingham.
Two more Ingham goals – the first with the help of a
Matthew Bach-Lombardo feed – would give the Yeomen a 5-0 lead at the intermission.
Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets things didn't change much in the second half as the Oberlin reserves kept up the pressure.
First-year Trento Bulucea netted his second score of the young season with
Daniel Tuzzolino getting credited with an assist on the play.
Senior
Louis Naiman would add on Oberlin's second penalty-kick goal of the night and would then assist on the final Yeomen tally of the night, setting up
Jonah Blume-Kemkes for his first goal of the year.
Oberlin out-shot Waynesburg 32-1 with 21 shots on goal. The Yeomen were aggressive all game long as they also earned 10 corners and while also getting whistled for 11 offside violations.
The Yeomen keepers were not tested much, but
Koryn Kraemer,
Connor English and
Isaac Goldman combined for the clean sheet.
With the win, the Yeomen moved to 3-1-0 while Waynbesburg dropped to 0-5-0.
Alumni Weekend will continue on Sunday afternoon when the Yeomen and Quakers of Earlham battle for the Freedom Trophy at 2 p.m.
