Volleyball Sweeps Utica; Falls to SUNY Canton

Houghton, NY – In its final tune-up before the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the Oberlin College volleyball team downed Utica College in straight sets by the scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-16. The Yeowomen later dropped a tight four-set decision to SUNY Canton by the scores of 25-20, 25-27, 24-26 and 23-25.

The Yeowomen did the bulk of their damage on the serve, knocking in 14 aces in the match. Sara Chang led the way with four, while Meredith Leung and Claudia Scott dropped in three each.
 
Scott led the Yeowomen with 12 kills, hitting .375 for the match. Dana Thomas added seven as Oberlin posted 33 total in the victory.
 
Oberlin's backline was led by senior libero Molly Powers as she finished with eight digs.

After winning the first set by five points, the Yeowomen dropped the next three sets by six points total as each game came down to the wire.
 
Four Yeowomen finished with double-digit kills with Scott leading the way with 18 finishes on 42 swings. Jillian Hostetler added 12, while Ave Spencer and Thomas added 11 each.
 
After registering 14 aces against Utica, the Yeowomen had just three and hindered their cause with 10 service errors.
 
Leung had the offense in system as she finished with 47 assists to go along with 10 digs. Powers added 13 more digs to her match-one total to end the day with 21.

Oberlin will enter this weekend's NCAC Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 2 Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night at 7 p.m.
