Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College football team fell behind early and could not recover as the Wittenberg University Tigers cruised to a 62-2 win over the Yeomen on Saturday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field.
The Tigers scored 27 first-quarter points and never looked back as the Yeomen defense had no answers for their high-powered attack. The Yeomen's lone points of the game came on a safety in the third quarter as
Anthony Allen disrupted a play in the Tigers' endzone.
Offensively, the Yeomen totaled 187 yards. After missing Oberlin's last game against Wooster,
Lucas Poggiali returned under center and finished 16-of-41 passing for 150 yards and three interceptions.
Justin Cruz was the team's top receiver, catching eight passes for 81 yards, while
Justin Williams led the ground attack with 37 yards on five attempts.
Wittenberg led 41-0 at the half and went on to add 21 points on three more touchdowns in the second half.
Spencer Conley was the Yeomen's top tackler, finishing with 11 stops (8 solo). Allen ended with five tackles, including two for a loss.
The Yeomen will look to regroup next Saturday when they make the long trek to DePauw University for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
