Yeomen Edged Out at No. 9 Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – Oberlin College men's soccer hung tough with No. 9 Kenyon College, but a second-half goal from the Lords made the difference on Wednesday night.

The Yeomen suffered their second consecutive 1-0 defeat after the Lords Tony Amolo rattled in a goal in the 63th minute. Amolo's score ties him a top the conference with senior ace John Ingham as they each have 11 on the year.

It was Ingham would led the Oberlin effort in the loss, firing three shots, one on target. Trenton Bulucea, Jesse Lauritsen, Sam Weiss, Nick Wertman and Galen Brennan all tallied a shot against the Lords, while Timothy Williams finished with two.

The Lords played stifling defense, allowing the Yeomen little space and few clean opportunities in front of net.

In the Oberlin goal, first-year Koryn Kraemer was persistently heckled by the Lords who finished with 23 shots, 10 on target. Kraemer tied his career-high for the fourth time this season with eight stops in the setback. The tall, strong freshman has amassed 55 saves over half way through the 2015 campaign and holds a save percentage of .809.

Despite combining for 22 shots in the first half, the two opposing sides went into the break locked at 0-0. The Lords came out firing in the second stanza and picked up the defensive intensity, allowing one Yeomen attempt in the latter 45.

In the 63rd, Amolo broke the nil-nil scoreline after receiving a pass in the middle from Kenyon's Woo Jeon and beating Kraemer who was charging out toward the Lords' forward.

The Yeomen were kept at bay for the remaining time after not being able to connect on any of three corner opportunities.

The loss drops the Oberlin men to 7-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in league play.

The Yeomen return to the pitch on Saturday, October 17 when they head to Springfield, Ohio and the campus of Wittenberg University. Kickoff between the Tigers and Yeomen is slated for 3 p.m.
