Volleyball Wins a Pair on Saturday

Pittsburgh, PA – The Oberlin College volleyball team snapped a seven-match losing skid, defeating both Penn State – Behrend and La Roche College on Saturday afternoon.
 
Against the Lions the Yeowomen dropped the first set 28-26, but bounced to win the next three games by the scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-14.
 
The Yeowomen offense was in rhythm throughout the match as they hit .212 and totaled 54 kills on 151 swings. First-year Claudia Scott continued to impress as she finished with a team-high 15 kills, while sophomore Hannah Tyburski added 13.
 
The duo of Maddy Dunn and Ave Spencer also added to the attack, combining for 16 kills with Dunn accounting for nine.
 
Meredith Leung had a great game distributing the ball as she was credited with 42 of Oberlin's 50 assists.
 
On the backline Molly Powers recorded 18 digs to go along with six service aces.
 
It was the Yeowomen defense that guided them to a 26-24, 25-18, 25-9 win over the Redhawks.
 
Oberlin had 5.5 team blocks and had just two serve reception errors. Dunn checked in with a solo block and two assisted blocks, while Scott also had three block assists.
 
On the offensive end four different Yeowomen led the way with six blocks each. First-year Dana Thomas had the highest percentage of the bunch at .417 as she had just one error on 12 swings.
 
Powers had 21 digs in the match, while Leung and Krista Langhans had four aces each.
 
Oberlin, which ran its record to 6-13 with the two wins, returns home to host Denison University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
