Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin field hockey used two second half goals to lift them to a 3-1 victory over Earlham College on a fall Sunday from the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
The three-goal performance moves the Yeowomen to 2-10 overall and 2-8 against North Coast Athletic Conference competition. The victory also marks the first win for an Oberlin athletics team in the new complex.
The Oberlin women struck first with a goal from defender
Hannah Christiansen. Christiansen knocked in a deflection that came off of rifled shot by
Ariana Enzerink.
The Quakers answered in the 28th minute with their first goal of the day. The two sides went into the locker room at the half deadlocked, 1-1.
Minutes into the second stanza, leading scorer
Maureen Coffey found the back of the net with the go-ahead goal.
Ten minutes later, junior
Sophia Weinstein added an insurance goal for the Yeowomen. The goal marks Weinstien's first of the season.
Sophomore
Maggie Gossiaux had another inspiring performance with her ninth double-digit save performance of the year. Gossiaux finished with 15 key saves against the Quakers.
The Oberlin women return to action this coming Friday, October 24 as they host the College of Wooster. The Fighting Scots and Yeowomen will square off at 4 p.m.
