Volleyball Hangs Tough with No. 5 Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team put up a strong fight against the fifth-ranked Tigers of Wittenberg, but ultimately still fell in straight sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Yeowomen did most of their damage from behind the backline as they dropped in 12 aces in the match. Sophomore Meredith Leung led the way with five, while Shavonne Stanek added four.

Unfortunately, Oberlin's attack was hindered by the play at the net by the Tigers as they totaled 10 team blocks, which resulted in the Yeowomen posting just 19 kills in the match. Ave Spencer led Oberlin with four finishes, while Dana Thomas, Maddy Dunn and Claudia Scott each added three.

Wittenberg hit .333 for the match with 36 kills on 75 swings. Camila Quinones led the way with a game-high 11 kills for the Tigers who improved to 17-3 overall and remained a perfect 6-0 in the NCAC.

With the loss the Yeowomen dropped back to 8-15 and are still in search of their first league win as they now sit at 0-5.

Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night when local rival Case Western Reserve comes to town for a 7 p.m. tilt.
