Yeomen and Lords Play to a Scoreless Draw

Brandt Rentel made a career high 15 saves in the tie against Kenyon.

Gambier, Ohio – In a crucial regular season finale match to determine seeding for the NCAC tournament, the Oberlin College Yeomen and Kenyon College Lords played to a 0-0 draw.
 
The Yeomen are now 13-2-4 overall and 5-1-3 in the NCAC. Kenyon moves to 13-3-3 and 6-0-3 in the conference. Oberlin extended its school record with its ninth shutout of the season, which leads all NCAC teams.
 
The draw earned each team one point in the conference standings and locks the Yeomen into the number three seed. Kenyon now holds a one-point lead over Ohio Wesleyan for the top seed. The Battling Bishops host Hiram tonight at 7:30.
 
The Lords came out ready to score, as they blasted 16 shots in the first half, forcing Brandt Rentel to make eight saves. The Yeomen who managed four shots and only one on goal.
 
From the opening whistle it was a physical battle as neither team was willing to back down. Two yellow cards were shown in the first half, one to John Ingham and the other to the Lords' Lewis Williams-Gray.
 
The rain continued to fall as neither team was able to break through in the second, but the Yeomen showed some fight and determination, creating multiple scoring opportunities.
 
The Yeomen got off three shots in the second half and forced the Lords' goalkeeper to make two saves, while Rentel made five more saves in the second half for the Yeomen.
 
In overtime the field conditions got worse because of the rain and it affected the play. Both teams were able to set up their offense and hold possession for extended periods of time.
 
The Lords' held an edge in corner kicks, 6-2, as both Yeomen corners came in the first half. In a very physical battle, both teams were called for 16 fouls.
 
Rentel finished the game with 15 saves, a career high that brings his season total to 73. It was his eighth clean sheet of the season, marking a new single-season program high.
 
Ingham paced the Yeomen offense as he took four shots, two of which were on goal.
 
The Yeomen will open NCAC tournament play on the road this Wednesday night.
