Yeomen Soccer Earns an At-Large Berth into the NCAA Tournament

Senior Ari Schwartz has been a key member for the Yeomen over the last four years.
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth on Monday afternoon, securing one of 19 at-large bids into the field of 61.

The Yeomen will travel to the University of Rochester to play SUNY-Oneonta in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m.

It has been a banner season for longtime Head Coach Blake New and his Yeomen side that tied the school record for wins in a season with a 13-3-4 record. This year's team also established a new school record for shutouts in a season with 10 and the 16 goals allowed are the fewest of any team in New's 16-year tenure.

Senior goalie Brandt Rentel set the single-season shutout record, recording nine clean sheets, while sophomore John Ingham scored an NCAC-best 15 goals, which ties for third best on the Oberlin single-season all-time list.

"This is a tremendous honor and award for our program," Coach New said. "I am so happy for the players as they are certainly deserving to be a part of the field. However, I would also like to thank the guys who have come before them and had many close calls over the years. They played a large part in building our program and leading us to this moment."

SUNY-Oneonta enters the national tournament with an 11-4-4 record, which includes a 7-0-2 mark in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).  Like the Yeomen, the Red Dragons fell in the semifinals of their conference tournament, dropping a 1-0 decision to eventual league champion Plattsburgh State.
