Calvin College Continues Dominance; Yeowomen Fourth

Oberlin, Ohio – For the fifth straight Year the Knights of Calvin College won the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, while the host Yeowomen turned in an impressive fourth-place finish.

Meet Overview
The Knights had four runners finish in the top 12, led by Jodi Hoekstra's second-place finish with a time of 21:33.81. She finished the race with an average mile time of 5:47.1.

As team the Knights, who entered the race at No. 9 in the country, earned 69 points. Alyssa Penning was their second finisher, coming through the chute in eighth place with a mark of 21:58.87. Completing a trio of harries in the top 10 was Kaitlin Diemer with a timestamp of 22.02.75.

Also earning the second automatic qualifying spot to nationals was Ohio Northern University with 96 points. The Polar Bears were led by Alison Steinbrunner, who won the race in 21:27.74, with an average mile time of 5:45.4. (Steinbrunner Video Interview)

Kelly Casanova finished 11th overall at 22:10.23, while Lydia Weaver rounded out their top three placers in 25th with a mark of 22:26.65.

The top 35 finishers in the race were named All-Region at the conclusion of the meet.

Oberlin Focus
The Yeowomen had one of their best races of the year as they finished in fourth place with 103 total points at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship. 

Oberlin was just seven points shy of second place  Ohio Northern and trailed third place Hope College by just four points.

Oberlin was led by sophomore sensation Molly Martorella as she finished third overall with a time of 21:41.96. The Yeowomen's top four placers all earned All-Regional accolades, while the team's fifth finisher, Emma Lehmann missed it by just one spot.

Following Martorella, it was NCAC Freshman of the Year Carey Lyons. Despite having one of her shoes fall off during the race, Lyons was still able to forge ahead and finish in 21st place at 22:24.74. 

Just two spots back of Lyons was Margaret Lindman as she completed the 6K course in 22:26.33 while rookie teammate Lindsay Neal was right on her coattails at 22:26.51.

Lehmann finished 36th with a time of 22:39.28. Caroline Martin was Oberlin's top displacer, checking in 39th 22:46.70.

The Yeowomen, who entered the meet ranked No. 18 in the country and fourth in the region, will wait to hear their NCAA fate tomorrow afternoon.
