Norton, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2023 season at the Tommy Evans Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Akron on the Silver Creek Cross Country Trails.
In a field that featured teams from all three NCAA Divisions, Oberlin held its own in this season-opening race. The women's team placed 16th with 409 points, while the men's unit also finished 16th with 507 tallies.Â
In the 189-runner field, it was
Sage Reddish and
Eliza Medearis who rode each other's coattails throughout the 5K race with Reddish clocking in at 20:16.09 and Medearis at 20:16.12 as they placed 89th and 90th, respectively.Â
Teammates
Camila Ciembroniewicz (20:45.27) and
Sophie Mateja (20:46.24) were close behind, finishing 113th and 115th overall. Senior
Margo Lee completed the team's top-five finishers in 21:01.08 to place 121st.Â
Walter Moak led the Oberlin effort in the 6K, placing 160th in the 270-runner field with a time of 20:46.76.Â
Running his first collegiate 6K, sophomore
Liam Newman was not too far off of Moak as he finished 167th in 20:52.21. Junior
Johnny Ragsdale came in four seconds later with a mark of 20:56.09 to end in 171st place.Â
Jonah Barber (21:08.36) and rookie
Charlie Endres (21:12.04) completed the top five for the Yeomen.Â
Oberlin will be back in action next weekend at the NCAC Preview meet, which will be hosted on the campus of Denison University.Â
