Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Oberlin College women's cross country team won the Carnegie Mellon Invitational and in the process they defeated nationally ranked Case Western Reserve (25th) and Grove City College (32nd).

Joanna Johnson won the 6k race with a time of 21:50, besting second-place finisher Justine Jeroski of Case Western Reserve by 30 seconds.

Freshman Molly Martorella finished in fifth place (22:54) while sophomore teammate Sara Terashima followed closely behind in sixth place. (23:15). Caroline Martin and Kristina Witcher rounded out the Yeowomen placers by taking 14th (23:33) and 15th place (23:37), respectively.

Head Coach Ray Appenheimer was very happy with the teams' performances this morning. “We beat several nationally ranked teams today. It was a wonderful performance all around.”

The Yeomen took second place behind Carnegie Mellon. Carnegie Mellon in currently ranked tenth in the nation. They beat nationally ranked Case Western (26th).

Stephen Williams led the way for the Yeomen taking fifth place overall (26:08) in the 8k race.

He was followed by teammates Derek Lange in sixth place(26:27) and Eric Line in seventh (26:27). Ben Schild and Matt Bernstein rounded out the top five in sixteenth (26:54) and eighteenth place (26:57).
