Oberlin, Ohio – It was cold outside, but the weather didn't cool off the College of Wooster's bats as they belted out 32 hits en route to completing the four-game series sweep of Oberlin College on Sunday afternoon, taking both ends of the twinbill 18-4 and 11-4.
With the losses, the Yeomen fell to 17-14 overall and 7-5 in the NCAC East, which puts them in sole possession of third place – and currently on the outside of the NCAC Tournament picture going into next weekend's conference series at Allegheny. The Gators took three of four from Kenyon this weekend and are now tied with Wooster for first place in the division at 9-3.
In the lid-lifter, the Scots scored early and often – posting at least one run in every inning but the seventh.
Wooster, which is ranked sixth in the latest
d3baseball.com Top 25 Poll, scored eight runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
Rookie
Zach Jaspers and junior
Brandon Cantrill each went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored. On the day, Cantrill went 4-for-8 with two doubles and three RBI's.
In game two, the Scots would again jump out to an early lead as Greg Van Horn hit a grand slam during a five-run first inning.
Oberlin would get two of those runs back in the home-half of the inning on a two-base hit to left-center by Cantrill that plated Jaspers and
Ben Puterbaugh.
After two quick outs in the top of the second, the Scots put together a rally as they used three hits combined with an Oberlin error to add three more runs.
Trailing 8-2 in the third, the Yeomen tried to fight back as Cantrill would add his second double of the game to score Jaspers. In the fourth, senior
Jack Dunn came through with a shot to the right-center-field gap that scored
Max Phinney all the way from first base, but from then on OC would manage just two hits.
Oberlin will look to get back on track when it makes the short trek to Baldwin-Wallace College for a single nine-inning game on Thursday. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
