Phoenix, Ariz. -
The Oberlin College baseball team continued their stellar start to the season by using a big third inning and 11 stolen bases to jump start their offense in route to a come-from-behind victory over Marian University, 12-10, in their first game at the RussMatt Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.

After a shaky start by starting pitcher Jason James, which saw him give up four runs in the first inning, the Oberlin College Yeomen (5-2), settled into a rhythm starting in the third inning. After a leadoff single by first-year Zach Jaspers, who was one of five Yeomen with a multi-hit game, the Yeomen bats began to come alive. The Jaspers single was followed by four more hits, three walks for the Yeomen and two costly miscues for the Sabres that led to a six run third inning. From there, the Yeomen would never look back as they added single tallies in the fourth and fifth and a three spot in the sixth. Another single tally was added in the seventh to round out the scoring for OC.

The Sabres (1-5) would begin to threaten again in the seventh and eighth inning, as they touched up reliever Brandon Cantrill for two and four runs, respectively. Junior Phil Brua would leave his catching position with one out in the eighth and three run ballgame to close the game out for the Yeomen, picking up his second save of the season.

The Yeomen were led offensively by Junior outfielder Max Phinney who went 5-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. OC used a superb running game to wreak havoc on the Sabres as they tallied 11 stolen bases on the day.

The Yeomen will look to stay on a roll as they take on St. Mary's University for a double-dip tomorrow with the first pitch slated for 12 p.m. PST, 3 p.m. EST.
