Waverly, Iowa
– Senior Joanna Johnson became one of the few people in the history of Division III Cross Country to earn three NCAA All-America honors as she led the Oberlin College Yeowomen to a 27th place finish at the NCAA Championship meet on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson completed the 6K trek through the Max Cross Country Course at Wartburg College in 21:33.7 to finish 16th overall. The Chico, California, native was in the lead pack at the one-mile mark and was in fifth place after two miles. She concludes her cross country career as the greatest Yeowomen runner in school history.

“While I feel we didn't run our best race today, I am still proud of what this team was able to accomplish this season,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We are a young group who will be graduating just one runner this year, so we have the core in place to take us back here every year.”

First-year standout Molly Martorella was the next Yeowoman to come through the chute, doing so in 22:33.3 to finish 118th overall.

Sophomore Caroline Martin stopped the clock at 23:10.3 to place 209th. It was junior teammate Nina Cole who checked in four seconds back of Martin at 23:14.3, placing 217th.

Sophomore Kristina Witcher completed the quintet of Oberlin placers in 239th place with a time of 23:30.6. Sophomore Sara Terashima (23:50.3/257th) and first-year Pearl Rivers (23:51.2/258th) also competed for Oberlin.

As a team, Oberlin accumulated 592 points and posted a total time of 1:54:02.0.

Middlebury won the event with 185 points. Wendy Pavlus, a senior from St. Lawrence University, took medalist honors with a time of 20:49.3.
