Crawfordsville, Ind. – For the second straight season the Oberlin College women's cross country team can call itself conference championships as they won the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship with a total of 56 points.

“Obviously this was a great day for us,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We ran a smart and hard race and I couldn't more proud of the team. Now we need to build from here as we move to the regionals in two weeks.”

Senior sensation Joanna Johnson claimed her third conference title as she bested the field by 52 seconds with a mark of 22:03. Head Coach Appenheimer was also voted Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Rookie phenom Molly Martorella checked in seventh in the 82-runner field as she completed the 6K course in 23:24.1

The young Yeowomen talent shined through on this day as sophomore Caroline Martin and first-year Pearl Rivers ran excellent races to finish 13th and 15th, respectively. Martin touched the tape in 23:59.9, while Rivers was close behind at 24:00.3.

Oberlin had all five of placers finish in the top 20 and had all seven of its runners in the top 25. Completing the scoring was junior Nina Cole who stopped the clock at 24:07.9.

The displacers for Oberlin played a large part in them winning the race as they edged out Allegheny by just two points. Sophomore Kristina Whitcher finished one spot back of Cole with a time of 24:08.4., which was ahead of Allegheny's fifth-best runner. Senior Hillary Tipton placed 25th with a time of 24:19.6 to complete the OC line-up.

Oberlin will return to action in two weeks at the NCAA Regionals at Hope College.
