First-Year Duo Earns All-Conference Accolades

Rookies Kristine Kuchta & Sara Gaines were honored by the NCAC.
Westlake, Ohio – First-year players Kristine Kuchta and Sara Gaines were named to the All-NCAC Softball Honorable-Mention Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Kuchta, a native of Brookfield, Illinois, led the Yeowomen with a .343 batting average and 36 hits. Oberlin's everyday shortstop also finished fourth in the league with 14 stolen bases and tied for fifth with 11 doubles.

Gaines, who started all 34 games as the team's main backstop, finished second on the squad in batting average (.322) and RBI (11). The Lexington, Kentucky, native also gunned down an impressive 9-of-16 would-be-base-stealers, for a stellar .640 stolen base percentage.

“Sara and Kristine were vital parts to our team this year and were a big reason why we were able to have some of the success we did,” head coach Adrienne Davis said.

Kuchta and Gaines helped Oberlin win a school record eight games this past spring, including its first conference victory since 2006. They and the rest of the team will officially being their preparation for next season in the fall.
