Hiram, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team gave game one away, but rallied late in game to two to end its 2009 season with a split against Hiram College. The Terriers walked-off in the bottom of the seventh in game one to win 6-5, but the Yeomen used a big sixth inning to prevail in the nightcap 11-7.

In what proved to be Oberlin's 15th win of the season, the Yeomen were clinging to a 5-4 lead heading into the sixth. In the inning Hiram's defense completely evaporated as they made seven errors, which led to six Yeomen runs.

In the final game of his career, senior #P.J. Carter# earned the win in relief as he worked two scoreless innings.

Oberlin (15-25) got on the board in the first on a two-run double by Brandon Cantrill and added single tallies in the second and third on RBI singles by Ben Puterbaugh and Phil Brua.

The Terriers (3-30) posted three runs in the fourth, tying the game at four, but a leadoff homer by Jeremy Simon to start the fifth inning put Oberlin right back on top.

After the six-run frame for Oberlin, Hiram tired to fight back with three runs in the home-half of the inning, but it was too little too late for the Terriers.

Cantrill finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Simon, Brian Verne and Pat Bourke also added two runs apiece.

In game one, the Yeomen must have felt like they were experiencing dejavu from their John Carroll game earlier this week, as today they led 5-0 after two innings, but couldn't finish the job. Last Wednesday against the Blue Streaks OC was up 4-0 after two and lost 6-4.

Cantrill and Ben Kauder got the scoring started with run-producing singles in the three-run first for the Yeomen. Verne plated Kyle Buzzard on a squeeze bunt in the second and Simon added an RBI single for the 5-0 Yeomen edge.

Hiram sandwiched a three-run fourth around single tallies in the third and fifth innings, tying the game at five.

The Terriers' Randy Miller came through with the game-winning single in the seventh to score Mark Reifsnyder, who got the rally started with a one-out double.

Brua threw 2.1 innings in relief and was tagged with the loss, despite allowing just three hits and the lone run.

After the second inning, Oberlin managed just four hits and stranded four runners on base.

Jason James joined Simon and Kauder with two hits in the game.

Oberlin's 15 wins is just two shy of the season-record (17), which was set in 2007.
