Box Score

Cleveland Heights, Ohio –
The Oberlin College baseball team led 4-0 after two innings, but John Carroll University crawled all the way back to take a 6-4 win from the Yeomen on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Jason James led the OC attack with a 2-for-4 effort and a run scored. Sophomore Ryan Mouch also had two hits, while senior Brian Verne went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Sophomore Phil Brua took the loss after working 6-plus innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits. The sidearm specialist was around the plate all day as 60 of his 87 pitches went for strikes.

Oberlin (14-24) took advantage of two JCU errors in the first inning to plate one run and would add three more in the second. After the first two batters of the inning reached base, Verne brought them home on a single to left center. The Yeomen would later add an additional run a delayed double steal that worked to perfection.

The Blue Streaks (24-8) used three hits to post a pair of runs in the third and benefited from sloppy Oberlin defense in the sixth to tie the game at four.

A leadoff triple in the seventh led to the Blue Streaks going on top and back-to-back hits in the eighth added another insurance run.

The John Carroll bullpen limited Oberlin to just four hits over the final six innings, which allowed them to battle back and earn the win.

The Yeomen will look to end the season on a high note as they travel to Bluffton tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
