Oberlin College Head Football Coach Steve Opgenorth enters his third year and second season on the sidelines for the Yeomen in 2022 after being named head coach in February of 2020. 

Since his arrival on campus, Opgenorth has changed the culture within the program and has drastically increased the team’s roster size through his tireless recruiting efforts. 

The Opgenorth File 
  • In 2021, produced the most passing yards in a season in school history (2,654) with QB Chris Allen Jr. having the second-most yards in a season (2,365) and passing touchdowns in a season (19)
  • Ran the most plays of any team in program history in 2021 (748) and had the fifth-highest ranked offensive in terms of net yards at 3,678
  • Set the school record for first downs (213)
  • Most passes completed in a season (240) and second-most attempts (411)
  • Mentored tight end Brandon Davies to All-NCAC Honorable-Mention accolades
  • Earned his first win at Oberlin on October 23, 2021 at Hiram College (31-28)
Prior to Oberlin
  • Spent five seasons at Baldwin Wallace University in various roles, which included associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach
  • In his final two seasons in Berea, he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 15-5 record
  • In 2018, Baldwin Wallace led the Ohio Athletic Conference in total offense with 456.6 yards per game as he mentored quarterback Jake Hudson to All-OAC second team accolades after he threw for a school record 2,640 yards while finishing second in the league with 25 touchdown passes
  • Was the head coach at St. Norbert College (WI) in 2014, leading the Green Knights to a 6-4 record. 
  • Was at Colby College (ME) as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for two seasons, helping the Mules post a .500 season in his second year.
  • Started as  graduate assistant coach at Carroll University (WI) from 2005-06, before moving on to Albright College (PA) where he helped take the Lions from a 2-8 football team in 2006 to an 11-2 record and an NCAA Division III National Quarterfinal appearance in 2009.
  • Was the special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach at Winona State from 2010-12 
As a Player
  • Was All-American place kicker and punter at NCAA Division II Winona State (MN)
  • Went to four consecutive postseason appearances with the Warriors, which included a trip to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals in 2003
  • Ending his career with 323 points and five school records
  • Named to the Winona State All-Century Team in 2005
Miscellaneous 
  • Selected as one of 30 participants in the NFL/NCAA coaches' academy in 2012, and has been a leadership development speaker across the country
  • Active member in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
  • Integral in Building the Bridge Scholarship Fund
  • A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin
  • Graduated cum laude from Winona State in May 2005 with a degree in business education
  • Earned a master's degree from Carroll University in adult educational leadership in 2017
