Rahsaan Laurel joined the Yeomen coaching staff in the spring of 2021 and was promoted in summer of 2022 to defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator.
In his first season with Oberlin, Laurel mentored a young linebacking core that featured three of the team's top five tacklers, including Luca Friedman who led the squad with 74 stops and was second on the squad with 7.5 tackles for loss.Â

Laurel came to Oberlin after spending the 2020-21 season as the defensive backs coach at Robert Morris University in Moon, Pennsylvania. In addition to instructing the Colonels’ secondary, Laurel recruited Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and managed all transfers while also bolstering the program’s social media presence.

Prior to his time at RMU, Laurel got his first collegiate coaching job in the spring of 2019 at Hocking Community College as the team’s passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

From 2016-18, he was a defensive assistant coach at Bowling Green High School, which included serving as the defensive coordinator of the junior varsity team. His efforts helped the Bobcats reach the OHSAA playoffs in each of his three seasons on staff.

Laurel, who has mentored six all-conference defensive backs at his various stops, also spent a brief time assisting at his high school alma mater of Reynoldsburg.

After playing two seasons at Division II Tiffin University, Laurel transferred to Division I Bowling Green State University in 2014.

Laurel graduated from BGSU in 2018 with a bachelor’s of arts degree in sports management while minoring in marketing.
