Veteran coach Mike Smith joined the Oberlin College football staff in the summer of 2022 as an assistant offensive line coach.
A Northeast Ohio football lifer, Smith spent seven seasons as the offensive line coach of the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and three decades on staff at nearby Baldwin Wallace University where he working with the offensive line (1991-2003, 2010-2016) running backs (2004), and tight ends (2005-09).
Smith’s first taste of collegiate coaching came as the running backs coach at Oberlin in 1990 after spending the previous summer as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan.
Smith also has experience coaching at various high schools throughout the area, spending time at Admiral King (1989), Lorain (1985-89), Elyria West (1983-85), and Amherst Steele (1979-1982).
Smith graduated from Miami University (OH) in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in education and he earned master’s in education from Ashland University in 1994.
