James Flowers enters his fifth season as a member of the Oberlin College football coaching staff in 2019. After working with the Yeomen's defensive line in his first two years, 2019 will be his third season on the offensive side of the ball and first as offensive coordinator.

In 2018 Flowers guided quarterback Zach Taylor to All-NCAC honorable-mention honors as he threw for 2,169 passing yards and a career-best 18 touchdowns. Taylor, who ranks first in Oberlin history in total offense, threw for over 200 yards in seven of the nine games he played in and had five games with multiple touchdown passes.

While working with the defensive line, Oberlin increased its sack total in each year, adding one more in 2016 before increasing by five sacks in 2017 with 21. In 2017, Oberlin allowed 351 yards less rushing than in 2016. Overall, the defense gave up 12 less points per game.

Flowers worked with the Yeomen running backs in 2015, helping the unit rush for 955 yards and 11 total touchdowns.

Prior to his arrival in Oberlin, he worked at Notre Dame College (NDC) as an offensive assistant focusing on offensive line play. Flowers worked closely with the offensive coordinator on philosophy, schemes and practice plans.

Flowers was a four-year player at NDC, helping the Falcons post a 40-7 record en route to four conference championships. He played in 10 games at quarterback and served as team captain in 2013.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from NDC in May of 2014.
