Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team battled throughout Saturday afternoon's home opener, generating several promising second-half opportunities in a 6-0 setback to Calvin at Shults Field.
The Knights struck twice in the opening 11 minutes, scoring in the eighth and 11th minutes to build an early 2-0 advantage.
Oberlin goalkeeper Roam Redington helped keep the Crimson and Gold within reach by making four saves in the opening half. However, Calvin added two late goals in the 43' and 45' to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
Asha Locke took over in goal to begin the second half and immediately faced pressure, turning away three shots over the opening 12 minutes. Calvin eventually added goals in the 57' and 73' to complete the scoring.
Oberlin continued to battle and generated their best stretch of offense in the second half. Skylar Leung put Oberlin's first shot on goal at the 52', while Samantha Dormer tested the Calvin goalkeeper twice during a four-minute span late in the match.
Redington and Locke combined to make eight saves, with each goalkeeper recording four. Dormer led the Oberlin attack with two shots on goal, while Leung added one. Calvin finished with a 20-3 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
