University Heights, Ohio – Remaining undefeated in North Coast action, the Oberlin College (RV) men's lacrosse team soared to a 15-5 victory over John Carroll. With the win, the Yeomen improve to 8-3 (3-0) overall.
Jacob Starcke led the scoring action with five goals and a pair of assists for seven points. Solomon Brennan notched a hat trick with three goals and two assists for five points, while Nicholas Cuda and Asher Friedman each posted two goals apiece. Cooper Zancosky, Ryan Murphy, and Andrew Rosa rounded out the Oberlin scorers, each tallying a goal.
Evan Sardina went 18-20 from the face-off, securing 15 ground balls. Max Revis and Cooper Rand combined for seven ground balls while Jackson Lu recorded a pair of caused turnovers. Nolan Grieshaber played a full 60 minutes in goal, notching five saves.
Oberlin opened scoring action three minutes into the contest after Brennan connected with Friedman. The Yeomen doubled their lead off the stick of Cuda. John Carroll responded with a goal after winning the subsequent face-off and tied the Crimson and Gold with 17 seconds remaining in the period.
An early goal from Brennan gave Oberlin a 3-2 lead to start the second quarter. Starcke registered back-to-back goals, followed by another goal from Brennan to lift the Yeomen to a 6-2 advantage. Both teams added two more goals in the frame as Oberlin entered the halftime break with an 8-4 edge.
It was all Crimson in the third period with goals from Zancosky, Rosa, Starcke, and Brennan, with Starcke adding two goals. Oberlin added back-to-back goals in the final period as Friedman connected with Murphy, then collected a goal of his own after Thinley Edwards won the ensuing face-off. John Carroll added one final goal as Oberlin secured the 15-5 conference victory.
"It was a great team effort today. Both sides of the ball did a great job executing," Head Coach Ryan Polak adds. "Important now for us to focus our attention towards our next game on Wednesday."
The Yeomen open home NCAC action on Wednesday, April 8, when they host Wittenberg. The afternoon face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
