Gambier, Ohio – Traveling to Central Ohio for a midweek contest, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team faced Kenyon. Despite controlling offensive action in the final quarter, the Yeowomen fell 16-10 to the Owls, shifting to 10-6 (1-5) overall.
Kylie Thompson, Charlie Marshall, Phoebe Dolan, and Olivia Corradi recorded two goals each, with Marshall posting her first multi-goal game. Mary Rodman added a goal and assist for two points, while Megan Hiller notched one goal.
Corradi and Rachel Reiter produced six draw controls apiece, combining for three ground balls. Emily Berger appeared in goal for just over 40 minutes, delivering seven saves, while Janny McCormick checked in for the remainder of the game, tallying two saves.
Kenyon got on the board first four minutes into the quarter, but Oberlin immediately responded as Corradi won the ensuing draw to gain offensive control. Launching the ball to the back of the net, Dolan evened the game at 1-1. The Owls pulled away with three straight goals until Dolan converted a free-position opportunity into a goal, cutting Kenyon's lead in half.
The Owls continued to capitalize on their home field advantage, surging with four goals in just over a 90-second period to close out the first quarter with an 8-2 lead. Starting the second session with the offensive edge, Marshall and Rodman each scored on their free-position opportunities. Corradi scored on the free position midway through the period, but Kenyon remained at the top 5-11 entering the halftime break.
Oberlin struggled to get in the net in the third frame until Rodman connected with Thompson at 2:24 to end the Owl streak. With 30 seconds remaining in the period, Sophie Ward sent the ball to Corradi to reduce their deficit to 16-7.
It was all Crimson and Gold in the final period with goals from Hiller, Thompson, and Marshall. Running out of time, Oberlin's late surge was unable to force overtime as Kenyon secured the 16-10 victory.
The Crimson and Gold will host their final regular-season game of the year on Saturday, April 25. Taking on Ohio Wesleyan, the opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. following their Senior Day ceremony.
