Oberlin, Ohio – After 94 minutes of storm delays the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team and Wooster faced off on Wednesday night. While the rainy weather didn't phase the Crimson and Gold, Wooster got the best of the conference matchup, 19-13. Oberlin moves to 10-4 on the season and 1-3 in NCAC play.
Mary Rodman had a career night, scoring five goals and going for 3-3 on free position shots.
Megan Hiller aided the offense with two goals, but her five assists led the day.
Kylie Thompson rounded out the multi-goal trio with three scores on four shots.
On the draw,
Olivia Corradi scooped four draw controls, while
Maddie Weathers brought in three.
Phoebe Dolan anchored the midfield with a pair of caused turnovers, and Thompson,
Sophie Ward, and
Emily Berger all collected three ground balls.
After beginning the game much later than anticipated, Wooster jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Thompson put the Yeowomen on the board with her 45th goal of the season, followed by Corradi with her 25th goal of the year. Wooster added one more goal before the quarter ended, but Oberlin picked right up in the second frame.
Back-to-back free position goals from Rodman and
Maddie Darlington brought the game to 5-5, just before another Rodman free position gave Oberlin their first lead of the night. Over the final four minutes of the half, Wooster outscored the Yeowomen 2-1 to force a tied halftime break.
Avenging each other's scores, thrice over, the game seemed balanced at 11-11. Beginning at the 5:54 mark, the Fighting Scots found reserved momentum and scored seven unanswered goals. Bridging between quarters, Wooster held an 18-11 lead before the Crimson and Gold responded. After a Dolan CTO and GB, Hiller cleared the ball before finding Rodman for an extra player goal. Wooster responded just moments later, as the time for a comeback ticked away.
Rodman added a final goal to cap off her high-scoring night, but the home team was unable to mount the comeback to save the game.
Oberlin next plays this weekend, on Saturday, April 18 when they head to central Ohio to take on No. 9 Denison. The draw is set to go up at 12 p.m.
