Ada, Ohio – Extending their undefeated start to the season with another win today, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team cruised past Ohio Northern 18-7.
"We had a great second and fourth quarter today and saw a lot of connections on attack and played well on the draw circle." Head Coach
Malory Nadrah said, "We've got some things to clean up defensively, but shoutout to our defenders and Maddie W for handling their top scorers well."
Thompson led the scoring charge with a team-high four goals, while
Megan Hiller led the team in points with three goals and three assists.
Olivia Corradi also recorded a hat trick, while
Maddie Darlington,
Sophie Ward, and
Elle Lavin finished with multi-goal days.
Maddie Weathers and
Rachel Reiter managed the draw and four draw controls each, while Oliva Mohel led the team with two caused turnovers. Earning the start in cage,
Emily Berger played 30 minutes and collected four saves. Midway through the third quarter,
Janny McCormick came in for relief followed by
Taryn Schwartz in the fourth.
After the Polar Bears jumped out to an early lead, it was all Crimson and Gold with a Darlington goal just minutes later. Oberlin added three more to close out the frame, followed by an impressive 7-0 run in the second period. In less than two minutes,
Mary Rodman and Corradi scored back-to-back man-up goals, followed by Thompson's 16th goal of the season. Darlington capitalized on a free position attempt followed by a Hiller goal to close out the half 11-2, Oberlin on top.
Ohio Northern ended their scoring drought early in the third quarter, adding another goal to their tally later in the frame. Despite the 2-2 third period, Oberlin continued to roll past Ohio Northern, triggering the running clock to start the final frame after Thompson caused a turnover on a clear attempt, scooped the loose ball, and dropped it into the back of the net.
Lauren Deardorf put the final touch on the game with a goal in the waning seconds, giving Oberlin the 18-7 final.
The Yeowomen stay on the road and head further north for their next matchup on Saturday, March 14. Taking on Albion, the Crimson and Gold and the Brits are set to face off at 1 p.m.
