Starcke Become All Time Leading Goal Scorer in NCAC Victory

Greencastle, Indiana – Leading the team with four goals, Oberlin College men's lacrosse senior, Jacob Starcke, became the all-time leading goal scorer for the Crimson and Gold on Saturday afternoon. Now with 166 career goals, Starcke moves ahead of Ryan Kelly '96 (165) to hold sole claim to the spot. Starck also moves up to fourth-overall in career points with 197.
 
Opening the North Coast Athletic Conference season against DePauw, the Yeomen controlled the contest for a 15-10 victory. With the win, Oberlin moves to 6-2 on the season.
 
Solomon Brennan and Andrew Rosa also scored four points in the win, both with two goals and two assists. Nicholas Cuda and Ryan Murphy also scored two goals each, with Cuda adding an assist in the contest. At face off, Evan Sardina went a perfect 24-24, breaking the single game face off record of 23 set by Sardina last year. Next to Sardina's 18 ground balls, Colin Taylor collected eight followed by Thinley Edwards with three. Taylor added another caused turnover alongside Joe Chai and Levi Shoemaker.
 
Brennan and Murphy struck quickly to open the game, followed by Rosa to give the Yeomen a fast 3-0 lead. The Tigers added back-to-back scores, but the Yeomen maintained their distance at 5-3 to end the first quarter. Oberlin pounded on DePauw in the second, outscoring the home team 5-1.
 
Up 10-4 heading into the second half, Oberlin continued to cruise through the game, extending their five-goal lead to seven. A win all but certain, Starcke put away the game with a goal at the 8:01 mark that made him Oberlin's all-time leading goal scorer.
 
Oberlin heads to Kentucky for their next matchup, taking on Centre on Tuesday, March 24. Face off is set for 4 p.m.
