Najmulski Electrifies with Career Night Against DePauw

Greencastle, Indiana - Leading with a career-best 26 points, Lily Najmulski made a mark in the record books as the Oberlin College women's basketball team traveled to DePauw on Saturday afternoon. Despite Najmulski's scoring thriller, the Crimson and Gold fell 69-42 in the matchup.

Najmulski went 9-17 from the field and 8-12 from behind the arc, which ties for second all-time in three-point field goals made in a single game. The senior's 26-point performance surpasses her previous record by eight points, having never eclipsed the 20-point single-game threshold until today.

Ellie Pollock-Ballard knocked down a three-pointer to get Oberlin on the board just over a minute into the match. Najmulski notched her first of eight triples in the afternoon to reduce the margin for the Crimson and Gold as the two opponents battled point-for-point in the rest of the period. DePauw rolled ahead in the second frame, making it difficult for Oberlin to get on the board, pulling ahead with double-digit points before the halftime break.

The Tigers continued their momentum in the third quarter, but Najmulski was able to break up their rhythm with a pair of threes with assists from Angela Kumler and Noa Brown. In the fourth session, the Oberlin three-point showdown continued as Brown registered a shot from behind the arc. On the Yeowomen's next possession, Najmulski produced another long-range shot to add to the board.

Brown and Krystal Montas each added a jumper, contributing to Oberlin's scoring surge. With 1:18 remaining in the match, Najmulski stole the ball from DePauw's possession, allowing the Denver native to post another three. Capping the impressive campaign, the senior added her eighth triple with under a minute until time expired to secure her a spot as one of the program's top single-game three-point scorers. Ultimately, the Tigers pulled away, clinching the conference victory.

"Lily shows up ready to compete every single day, whether that is in practice, a skills session, or on game day! She was incredible today and did everything she could to try to create positive momentum for our team," Head Coach Stephany Dunmyer adds. "She has always been a knock-down shooter and it was so fun to see her in the 'zone' today! What makes it even more impressive is that she plays so incredibly hard on both ends of the court and consistently takes on the challenge of guarding one of the best scorers/players on the other team."

The Crimson and Gold will return to Philips on Wednesday, February 11, when they host Denison. The evening game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ahead of the men's game.
