Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College women's lacrosse senior,
Megan Hiller, scored her 100th career goal in the team's 16-4 win over Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon. With two goals and three assists, the Maryland native moves to fourth all-time in career points with 145. Oberlin moves to 3-0, the best start for the program since 2017.
When asked what this accomplishment means, Hiller said, "It's a collection of all of our team's hard work, beginning in preseason to now. This is a great reflection of where we're headed this season!"
Alongside the vet was
Maddie Darlington, who had a career day scoring five goals on five shots on goal. Darlington collected a team-vest four draw controls and scooped on ground ball.
Kylie Thompson finished with three goals and one assist, while
Sophie Ward and
Olivia Corradi each added two goals.
The keeper committee of
Emily Berger and
Janny McCormick split halves today, combining for an impressive 11 saves.
Taryn Schwartz came in for relief in the final quarter, blanking the Hornets. On defense,
Phoebe Dolan led the team with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Classmate
Lauren Deardorf also finished with a set of caused turnovers.
Oberlin took just 2:26 to get on the board, scoring off a free position from Corradi. Thompson scored next after a doorstep save from Berger gave the Yeowomen possession. Oberlin scored thrice more before the quarter ended, taking a controlled 5-0 lead into the second frame.
The Hornets responded in the opening minute to get on the board, but Darlington's ensuing draw control led to her second goal of the game. Over the next ten minutes, Kalamazoo cut into the Crimson and Gold's lead with two goals, but after Deardorf caused a turnover and scooped the loose ball, the team gave way to a
Mary Rodman goal just seconds later.
Outscoring the visitors 5-1 after the halftime break, Oberlin extended their advantage and continued to outpace the Hornets. Scoring her first goal with the Crimson and Gold,
Zoe Torimoto gave the Yeowomen the go-ahead goal to trigger the running clock. The free position shot put Oberlin up 15-5 over Kalamzoo. Thompson added one last score before the game ended, keeping Oberlin's unbeaten streak against the Hornet alive at 4-0.
Of the complete team win, Head Coach
Malory Nadrah said, "We showed improvement in our draw game and transition today. We stayed steady through Kalamazoo's bursts in momentum and had a lot of people step up." Nadrah adds, "Maddie D has been working so hard, and it was awesome to see it pay off. I'm really proud of Megan for hitting a paramount milestone in her career."
The Yeowomen rest for their next game on Bailey Field, on Wednesday, March 4 when they host Marietta. First draw is set to go up at 6 p.m.
