Men’s Tennis Drops Nail-Biter in Home Opener

Oberlin, Ohio –The Oberlin College men's tennis team dropped a close 5-2 match to Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon.
 
Despite a lopsided score line, the Yeomen battled in four tiebreakers on singles court, and an a trio of long 10+ game sets in the remaining two matches.
 
Lake Forest claimed the doubles point, taking courts No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 1, sophomore Enrique Margain and first-year Cameron Weiss fell 7-6(12). Seniors Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski dropped No. 2 doubles 6-2.
 
The highlight in doubles came at No. 3, where sophomores Max Brose and Oliver Knijnenburg made their debut together and earned a 7-5 win. Their victory served as a key bright spot for the Yeomen.
 
In singles, sophomore Margain kept his undefeated season alive with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4. First-year Dash Smith added Oberlin's second point with a three-set comeback at No. 3, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5.
 
Lisann pushed his opponent to three sets at No. 1 before falling 6-2, 3-6, 5-10. With the win, the Cougars tied the match at 2-2.
 
Junior Zain Makada was edged in a tight tiebreak in the first set, falling at No. 2, 6-7(8-10), 4-6. Looking to keep Oberlin's hopes alive Weiss battled at No. 5 but came up short in three sets, 6-7, 6-0, 10-12. Despite the match already conceded, Brose closed out a tight No. 6 single match, falling 5-7, 4-6.
 
The Crimson and Gold have a quick turnaround when they host Rochester tomorrow, Sunday, February 15 at home. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
