Granville, OH - Day two of the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships saw the Oberlin College swim and dive teams put up impressive performances.
In the opening event, 500-yard Freestyle, Chahine Saïd touched in 6th (4:33.74), followed by teammate Miguel Siwady in 12th (4:39.17). Said's performance improves on his current second-best program time, bringing it down by half a second. In the women's event, teammates Kaylee Johnson, Katherine Noller, and Cam Maurer touched in 23rd (5:27.88), 24th (5:28.65), and 27th (5:34.14), respectively, all contributing to the team's point total.
"Our team is in a good position as we get stronger through the meet based on the strengths of our team." Head Coach Alex de la Peña said. "Our divers are also contributing key points to the team as we had another A final performance tonight. We are looking forward to building more momentum through the meet!"
In the second event of the night, the 200-yard Individual Medley, senior Leo Powers finished in 16th (1:55.90), closely followed by James Moll (1:55.99) in 19th. Junior Charlie Matia rounded out the Yeomen's performance with a 24th-place finish in a time of 2:00.62. The Yeowomen pair of Grechen Lotter and Kendall McKelvey finished 22nd (2:17.99) and 24th (2:23.77) apiece.
The 50-yard dash saw a trio of Yeowomen make the finals. Soomin Yoo led the charge, finishing in 21st (25.19), followed by Nyrobi Whitfield in 23rd (25.62) and rounded out by Maya Edwards in 27th (26.30).
In the diving well, junior Elizabeth Huettig put up a strong fight in the heats (240.75), making the final and maintaining her 9th place standing (242.85).
Rounding out the day saw both Oberlin teams put up a good performance in the 400-yard Medley Relay. The Yeomen team of Moll, Matia, Powers, and Saïd touched in a time of 3:25.03, earning 6th-place points. The Yeowomen continued the push, with Edwards, Yoo, McKelvey, and Whitfield finishing in 8th with a time of 4:11.34.
After two days of competition, the Yeomen are in sixth with 260 points, and the Yeowomen land in seventh with 213 points. Swimmers return to the water tomorrow, Friday, February 12, at 9:30 a.m., with men's 1mtr diving taking off at noon.
