Granville, Ohio – On the first night of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, the Oberlin College men's and women's swim and dive teams were off to a fiery start.
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of
Nyrobi Whitfield,
Yoo Soomin,
Kendall McKelvey, and
Gretchen Lotter clocked in at 1:52.11, earning seventh overall for their performance. On the men's side of the event,
James Moll,
Charles Matia,
Leo Powers and
Zach Black finished 6th with a time of 1:33.05, the fifth best in program history.
On the boards,
Sebastian Lagasse competed in the 3-mtr dive event where he qualified for finals after a stellar prelims performance. Scoring 281.95 in prelims, Lagasse notched a personal best of 292.60 points in his first career finals appearance for a sixth-overall finish.
Back between the lanes, the 800-yard freestyle relay kicked off with the women's team of Lotter,
Hailey Hamilton,
Addie Malley and
Cam Maurer. Touching the pads at 8:15.99, the Yeowomen earned sixth.
Miguel Siwady,
Kye Marrero, Powers, and
Chahine Saïd headlined the men's 800-yard relay team where they swam a 6:59.08, a 4th best program time. Siwady's lead-off 200-yard freestyle (1:42.68) was also a record-breaker, improving on his previous time to become the 3rd fastest in program history.
After the first day of competition, the women's team earned 106 points to sit in 6th of the eight team field. Kenyon and Denison tie for first (132), and DePauw (120) round out the top three.
With 133 points, the men's team sits in fifth of nine, behind the top three: Denison (234), Kenyon (183), and Wabash (178).
The Crimson and Gold return to the pool tomorrow, Thursday, February 12. Prelims are set to begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by diving Prelims at 12:00 p.m. Swim finals will start at 6 p.m., while diving finals will begin promptly after the 50-yard freestyle finals.
