Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team continued to compete throughout 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon at the College of Wooster, with the Crimson and Gold putting together a strong second-half effort in a 2-0 final loss.
The Crimson and Gold finished with four total shots, three on goal, and two corner kicks. Wooster was held to 11 shots after halftime as Oberlin's defensive effort kept the Fighting Scots from adding to their lead.
Wooster opened the scoring in the 10' and added a second goal just before halftime to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
Oberlin came out with increased pressure in the second half, creating several opportunities while goalkeeper Asha Locke helped keep the Crimson and Gold within striking distance. Locke made four saves after halftime, including back-to-back stops in the 53' before denying another Wooster attempt in the 62'.
The Crimson and Gold also began testing the Wooster defense. Molly Button put Oberlin's first shot of the second half on target in the 59', forcing a save from the Wooster goalkeeper. Kylie Tinnirella followed with a shot on frame in the 65' that was also turned away.
Locke came up with her biggest save of the afternoon in the 72', stopping a Wooster penalty kick to keep the deficit at two goals. She finished the match with seven saves over 90 minutes.
Oberlin continued to look for opportunities late, with Leah Thompson, Tinnirella, and Button each recording a shot on goal. Thompson led the Crimson and Gold with two shots, including one on target, while Tinnirella and Button each finished with one shot on frame.
The Crimson and Gold are back in action this weekend, Saturday, October 10th at 6 p.m against Kenyon on Bailey Field.
