Crimson and Gold Take on the Battling Bishops

Oberlin, Ohio – Featuring a first career goal from Emma Boyles, the Oberlin College women's soccer team battled Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday night. Though the Crimson and Gold defense pushed to hold off the aggressive attack, the Battling Bishops secured the 4-1 victory.

Oberlin recorded six shots, with four on goal, while Ohio Wesleyan tallied 16 shots. The visitors also held a 6-2 edge in corners. Asha Locke appeared in goal for a full 90 minutes, making a trio of saves.

The Crimson and Gold defense were tested early with a corner kick just six seconds into the contest, holding Ohio Wesleyan from taking a shot. Molly Button aimed to get Oberlin on the board first with a shot from within the penalty box, but the OWU goalkeeper made the stop. The Battling Bishops got on the board in the 22nd minute and doubled their lead nearly five minutes later after an Oberlin own goal.

With another OWU goal five minutes later, the Crimson and Gold looked for an opportunity to cut the Battling Bishops' lead. Averi Williams drilled a shot on target but was halted by Ohio Wesleyan's keeper.

Natalie Horak opened the second half testing the OWU lead as her shot found the gloves of the keeper.  The Oberlin defense pushed to hold off the Battling Bishops, who recorded a trio of shots in two minutes. As Oberlin brought the ball down to the offensive end, Williams sent a cross from the right edge of the penalty box, finding Boyles, who sent the ball past the goalkeeper to the bottom left of the net to score her first career goal. OWU extended their lead to 4-1 less than five minutes later and continued to hold Oberlin off until they secured the conference victory.

The Crimson and Gold return home on Saturday, October 24, when they host Denison. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
