Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Locke Makes Nine Saves in Battle Against John Carroll

University Heights, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team traveled to John Carroll on Saturday, but the Crimson and Gold were unable to find the back of the net as the Blue Streaks claimed a 2-0 victory.

The Crimson and Gold delivered four shots with three on goal. The Blue Streaks also held the edge in corner kicks, 6-4. Asha Locke appeared in goal for all 90 minutes, posting nine saves.

Oberlin's four shots came from four different players. Molly Button, Sappho Bodkin, Averi Williams, and Emma Boyles each recorded one, with all but Button's testing the John Carroll goalkeeper.

The hosts controlled much of the offensive possession, opening with a shot in the 2' out the top right. John Carroll tested Locke early, with Locke recording her first save in the 3'. The Blue Streaks added another shot before Oberlin answered in the 13', when Molly Button sent an attempt just left of the goal. Locke continued to hold the Blue Streaks off, stopping shots in the 20' and 26'. The Crimson and Gold earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 32' and 33', but John Carroll broke through in the 35' to take a 1-0 lead. Locke added another save just thirty seconds later, and the Blue Streaks took that one-goal advantage into the break.

John Carroll kept up the pressure in the second half, firing five shots before the 52'. Locke made saves in the 49' and 51' to keep the deficit at one. She came up big again in the 69' and 70' as the Blue Streaks continued to press.

The Crimson and Gold earned a corner kick in the 74', and Emma Boyles followed with a shot to the bottom center in the 76', but it was stopped by the John Carroll goalkeeper. Sappho Bodkin put another attempt on frame in the 78' and was also denied. Locke added another save in the 83'. In the 86', John Carroll found the back of the net once more, extending its lead to 2-0. Averi Williams got off one final shot to the bottom center in the 89', but the Blue Streaks' goalkeeper made the save to preserve the shutout.

The Crimson and Gold return home on Tuesday, October 20, to host Ohio Wesleyan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
